Dragon's Den culture spurs innovation
| Date Added: Tue June 12 2007 |
UK Entrepreneurs with big ideas are powering a national culture of innovation, according to the UK Intellectual Property Office.
An increasing number of applications are now coming from entrepreneurs who aim to start new businesses to capitalise on their inventions, according to the Office. The first quarter of 2007 saw more than 1800 individuals put in their applications for patents. This figure represents almost a third of the total number of patent applications, as evidence of the entrepreneurial sector becoming 'an important part of the UK's innovation culture'.
Malcolm Wicks, the Science and Innovation Minister, comments: "Britain remains a nation of inventors, taking their ingenuity from the garden shed to commercial success. Entrepreneurs and the passion of those who appear on shows like Dragons' Den can really inspire innovation."
The Office has just launched its 'Cracking Ideas' scheme |
