SME Invoice Finance Delivers the Goods
SBA Airfreight Services Ltd is a logistics and haulage company, based in Feltham, Middlesex. Established five years ago, it had humble beginnings; two men operating from the back of a van, armed with a laptop and a printer. Such was their determination, however, that the business grew steadily, until there were fourteen staff and eleven trucks, working out of two yards and a warehouse.
Then, disaster struck. An unattended fire at a neighbouring company spread, destroying SBA's warehouse, freight and 2 loaded trailers, in a blaze which threatened to close Heathrow Airport.
In spite of the nightmare scenario, having been shut down for only a week, the directors called in some favours, borrowed some trucks and moved into a tiny office with a small yard at the front. They were up and running but the situation was far from ideal: the cramped conditions necessitated constant shifting of the trucks; there was a massive insurance claim to process; and to make matters worse, one of their largest clients used their weakened position to try to renegotiate terms.
A move to larger premises was essential but working capital funding would be required to achieve it. SBA's directors spoke to a number of lenders; Barry Howarth explains what made SME Invoice Finance stand out from the rest:
"SME Invoice Finance was different from the start. We could talk to them; they didn't come in with a list of demands, they listened and were sympathetic to our ambitions. Unlike the other lenders, we had a real rapport with them. They even helped us obtain the operator's licence we needed for the new premises."
SME Invoice Finance structured and delivered a factoring deal worth £100,000.
Mr Howarth continues: "We've been with them a couple of years now and they're doing us proud. They are the second half of my accounts team. I'm on the 'phone to our account managers every other day, they're very approachable. Thanks to SME Invoice Finance we have our own premises again and room to expand."
